What We Do

Crime Victims United of California is a non-profit, 501(c)4 organization that is actively engaged in the state’s legislative process — sponsoring and supporting bills that enhances victims rights, promote public safety and hold criminals accountable for their actions; and opposing bills that erode or fail to reinforce these goals.

CVUC’s lobbying team monitors legislation, meets with legislators, testifies at hearings, writes letters of support or opposition, and distributes educational materials. We then alert our supporters of the bills that could affect them, and encourage them to contact their legislators on bills of particular interest.

As a result, hundreds of new public safety laws have been passed to help reduce violent crime, empower victims and their families, and ensure justice is served.

CVUC also has a strong, active presence at the Annual Victims March on the Capitol during National Victims Rights Month each April, where hundreds of victims from across the state visit the state capitol to encourage our state’s elected leaders to support pro-victim policies and to remember their lost loved one.

The Crime Victims United PAC was founded in 1992 as the first-ever non-partisan political action committee dedicated solely to protecting the rights of crime victims.

CVU PAC endorses local, state, federal and judicial candidates who have demonstrated their commitment to enhancing victims’ rights and improving public safety — and in special cases provides financial support, as well.

The PAC Board meets prior to each primary and general election to consider candidate statements, conduct interviews and make endorsements.

Over the last decade, CVU PAC has helped elect dozens of pro-victims’ rights candidates in California.
