The Catina Rose Memorial Scholarship
On September 3, 1979, Catina Rose Salarno was tragically stalked and murdered in an execution-style killing on her first day at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.
Her senseless death sent shockwaves across California, shining a spotlight on the deep injustices faced by crime victims within the criminal justice system.
In response to this devastating loss, her parents, Mike and Harriet Salarno, founded the Crime Victims United Charitable Foundation to advocate for crime victims, promote public safety, and provide critical support to those affected by violent crime. Today, Harriet and her daughter Nina continue this vital mission, honoring Catina’s legacy with every step they take.
In memory of Catina’s passion for education and her dream of becoming a dentist, the Catina Rose Memorial Scholarship was established. Catina had been excited to begin her college journey and fulfill a lifelong dream. Though her life was tragically cut short, her unwavering dedication to learning continues to inspire others. This scholarship is awarded annually to a crime victim who is turning their pain into purpose by pursuing an education and giving back to others.
If you have been a victim of a crime, our hearts go out to you. We encourage you to review the scholarship criteria and apply. Please remember, we are here to support you through your journey.
Sincerely,
The Crime Victims United Charitable Foundation Scholarship Committee
