CVU Responds to Governor’s State of the State
Following Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent State of the State address, Crime Victims United issued the following statement expressing concern over how public safety and criminal justice reform were characterized.
“The Governor's misrepresentation of public safety in his long overdue State of the State was unsurprising. He has a history of denying the dangerous consequences of California's so-called criminal justice reforms, to the detriment of crime victims. Californians know that we still have crime, and plenty of it — despite what his pseudo-stats might indicate. And lying to victims about how long their offenders will serve by letting violent criminals out of prison decades earlier is also not popular with the electorate. He may talk a good game, but as they say, the proof is in the pudding."
Crime Victims United continues to hear from victims and families across California who feel dismissed by policies that prioritize offender release over victim safety and truth in sentencing. The organization remains focused on advocating for reforms that restore transparency, uphold accountability, and place the needs of victims and communities at the center of public safety policy.
